Owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild since 1868, this legendary Pauillac First Growth possesses an exceptional terroir of fine and deep gravel on a limestone footing, to the north of the appellation. The signature style of Château Lafite Rothschild is one with a tight tannic structure – due to a largely dominant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon – however the wines are smooth with subtle hints of cedar and graphite. Ageing of 20 months in exclusively new, small oak barrels prepares the wine for an extraordinary cellaring future. Fifteen years on, this 2004 seems extremely fresh. And it is this freshness that makes for such perfect balance alongside the plushness and smoothness of the tannins, in this wine of great elegance.
2004 Blend: 90,5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 0,5% Petit Verdot
